(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO, April 18th 2006) – A historical television alliance was announced in Puerto Rico, confirming that the programming and talent of TU UNIVERSO TELEVISION (TUTV), Channels 6 and 3 have joined TELEVICENTRO of Puerto Rico, Channel 4, to reach Puerto Rican residents of the United Status through WAPA América, the channel of Televicentro’s local productions. Transmissions will start today, April 18th.

The government’s station, TUTV, will provide 16 hours of local programming weekly, that will be added to the 78 hours that Televicentro de Puerto Rico has been transmitting during the past year and a half through WAPA América. The good news was confirmed to the media in a press conference celebrated with the presidents of both stations, Channel 6 and Channel 4, Víctor Montilla and Joe Ramos.

Víctor Montilla expressed his satisfaction with the fact that TUTV’s programming can be enjoyed by WAPA América’s Hispanic audiences. “It’s an excellent opportunity that allows us to export our varied programming, as well as our local talent. Our programming will be the door through which our Hispanic friends, especially the Puerto Ricans living abroad, can enjoy the best of our Caribbean culture. This alliance sets the precedent that public television programming can result attractive and marketable to commercial stations. The quality of the content of our programming, as well as the technical quality has been a trademark of Tu Universo Television which is why we are sure that audiences of all ages will be able to enjoy it,” he stated with enthusiasm.

On the other hand, Joe Ramos, President of Televicentro, reaffirmed the channel’s interest in continuing to be pioneers in the effort of closing the gap between islanders and the Puerto Ricans who live in the United Status.

“We are happy to announce this alliance that brings us closer to Puerto Ricans abroad through the programming of Televicentro, and now TUTV, Channel 6. Our plans to continue strengthening WAPA América’s programming continue to grow as our programming becomes more varied. The collaboration of both channels in benefit of Puerto Rican talent and our viewers represents a great step for local television, because it will allow us to demonstrate overseas that we produce quality programming with the possibility of being exported,” said Ramos.

TUTV programs that join the actual programming of WAPA América are Cultura Viva, Contigo, Dímelo, Puerto Rico: El son del Caribe, De Pura Cepa, Geoambiente, Prohibido Olvidar, El Show de Chucho, Así Canta Puerto Rico and Exprésate.
